OVERVIEW
In this art lesson, pupils will be looking at abstract art. They will study Henri Matisse's artwork and identify how he had created his artwork. At the same time, pupils will learn to look at things at a different perspective and garner confidence to share with their friends about their own final artwork.
ELEGANT ART TASK
Pupils will create an abstract artwork using paper cutting to depict 'movement in nature'. They will also include an artist statement about their work and use their presentation skills to talk about their artwork.

TEACHING TIPS
IDEA GENERATION LESSON:
- Look closely at how Henri Matisse did his abstract cutout.
- Talk about the use of colours.
- Look close at how the papers are overlapped.
- Look clearly at the abstract cutout.
- Minimise wastage of colour papers.
- Get pupils to work in pairs and tell them they can only take 3 pieces of coloured paper. If they need other colours, first, tell them to get from other pairs. Second, if they are unable to get, then give them the paper. Try to use A5 coloured papers.
